"I'm not really like Ianto at all. I'm a lot more impulsive than he is and I'm more inclined to do crazy things! Ianto hides things away a lot more, which is what makes him such an interesting character to play. Outwardly, he's very straight-laced but there's a darker side to him and a very playful side too"
"Initially, I just had a comment here or a witticism there, and while I wasn't trying to be a scene-stealer, I did guiltily play those lines up as much as I could and I played some things in a certain way that suggested there was more to be explored there"
"I think he's a lot happier. He hasn't got any major secrets that's he's keeping from anyone now and he's able to focus a lot more on being part of the team. I think the gap left by Lisa has been filled with him becoming besotted with his duties and becoming very much the loyal, reliable solider. --- What's nice about his suits in the 2nd series is that they are a little snazzier, so he's being more expressive about who he really is. He's a lot more comfortable in a suit now and has made it part of his true personality, even though he wasn't really a suit wearer before. It isn't a barrier now"
"I don't really understand how I was voted one of Wales Top 20 sexiest men. There were some amazing people below me. I also get an embarassing and flattering amount of fan mail and I feel a bit guilty about all the fans I haven't replied to yet. I'm not rich enough to have a PA yet and there are only so many hours in the day. I am working through them all, I promise"
"I think Ianto likes things to work like clock-work - literally - and he doesn't like to rely on machines. He's much more drawn to hard copies of things, like his diary. The realiability of things like the stop-watch are really symbols of his personality"
From Out of the Rain - "I think he's very emotionally affected by that. I love this episode because Ianto sort of heads the investigation at first, then he drops back a bit because of how he's affected by it. He used to go along to the Electro with his dad, who gets mentioned a couple of times this series. So when this evil is born out of it, it's very upsetting for him, because it's a piece of his past"
Fragments - " That was brilliant, because it was exactly the way I imagined it. I tried to pick Russel Davis's brain about it before, asking him what Ianto did at Torchwood London and how he got to Cardiff with Lisa and all this stuff but he just laughed in his usual way and boomed ' I think that'll be up to me and Chris, when it comes to it"
Jack - "I think that attraction has always been there but now Ianto's priorities have changed, he's allowed himself to fall for Jack. It's become something more confiding and secure"
"Yeah, I was told that Ianto was going to die and come back to life, which I thought sounded interesting. But then Russel and Julie called me and Burn in for a meeting and said it makes more sense if it was Owen. Owen is the one who's most passionate about his human bodily functions - shagging, drinking and being alive. So for him to lose those, makes it more interesting. We had a bit of a laugh about which one of us should be allowed to die."
"I was nervous about when we had to go topless in Adrift, just because John is more physically impressive than me. The make-up department give you a little bit of muscle shading to give you some more definition but I swear John got more than I did. Ray Holman - the costumer designer - gave me the heads up about that scene a couple of weeks in advance and he patted my medium-swelled stomach, as it was at the time, and said 'I've just seen the script and it's tops-off love' So I went to the gym and I think I just about got into shape in time. But you can't help but giggle when you actually do something like that"
"The repreive meant that Ianto was one of only three characters left standing at the end of the series. Does this mean we'll get to see more of Ianto in the future?" "That would be great if Ianto moved up to number 3 in the team now they haven't got Owen and Tosh. Obviously, he's always been number 5 in the past, so whether he'll step up a bit more remains to be seen. I'd love it if I got to do even more in the future, as I think there's a lot more to explore with Ianto"
